One common quality among all successful people is that they believe in themselves. They believe that they can achieve their dreams and thus work accordingly for them. They do not let small failures get in the way and remind themselves that they can do it, even though that seems to be the last thing possible at that time. Luck, money, contacts, background: yes, all these do play a role in the success of people, but these would not be of any use till you believe in yourself. Self-belief is the key ingredient. Tell yourself that you can achieve what you want; you can overcome your obstacles; understand that you can do it. Once you have managed to get past your doubts you will realize that half the battle is won already. Numerous quotes by famous people stress upon the power of believing in yourself. Why do you need that?

To make others believe in you

Until and unless you have a firm belief in yourself why would someone else? If you have doubts about yourself, others would be able to see through it and realize that you are not confident regarding something. On the other hand, if you believe you are capable enough, you will reflect that in your attitude and others would be able to see it too.

It gives you confidence

Believing in yourself makes you confident and those who exude self-confidence are always sought after. It is the belief in yourself that allows you to overcome failures and get past the barriers that question your abilities. Self-confidence is what makes you learn from your mistakes rather than wallowing in them.

You work for your goals

Once you have instilled in yourself that you are capable of doing it, you will work for it. You will understand that the only thing stopping you from achieving your aims is the effort you are required to put in and the time it will take. The path is clear and all you need to do is walk it and take action. When you feel that you are close to your goals and they are within your reach, you obviously look forward to it, your motivation levels hit the sky and you are more inclined to work harder.

You deserve better

You are capable of much more than you imagine. We tend to underestimate ourselves in spite of having the greatest processing device: the brain. We have the abilities yet we do not use them to the best. We are more likely to remember our failures than our triumphs. Self-belief makes you apply yourself and your brain highlights your achievements, reminding you that you are just as great and worthy as any other successful person.

You understand that failures do not matter

Self-belief makes you look down at failures. Failing is part of life and it is not the end of the world if you have failed. The important thing is to not let it make you give up. If you fail, you have to retry. And you have to keep trying till you get it right. Self-belief gives you such an attitude.

These do not necessarily apply to work life only. Believing in yourself is important at every stage of your life. During college life, when you are on your own for the first time and need help with studies. When you step into professional life: and you are lost and may need a mentor to guide you. When you retire, and suddenly your new routine is not what you were looking forward to. Whatever the case, believing in yourself is going to bring a major difference in your life.
